Portland Trail Blazers fall to Dallas Mavericks: Live updates recap

The Portland Trail Blazers entered the fourth quarter within striking distance, but the Dallas Mavericks pulled away for a 125-112 victory Friday night at the Moda Center.

Anfernee Simons finished with 30 points and eight assists for the Blazers (6-15), who were without Deandre Ayton, Malcolm Brogdon and Jerami Grant.

Luka Doncic led the way with 32 points and 10 assists for Dallas (13-8).

PORTLAND TRAIL BLAZERS VS. DALLAS MAVERICKS

Fourth quarter:

- The Mavericks go on to win it 125-112.

- Exum hit a three for Dallas and then Doncic stole the ball from Simons.

- Dallas leads 120-112. Scoot Henderson just missed a short shot inside.

- Lively scores inside. Dallas up 117-109.

- Sharpe jumper makes it 115-106.

- Dallas went back up 113-100.

- Doncic layup. 104-98.

- Simons just hit a floater and a three to make the score 99-98, Dallas.

- Scoot Henderson scored, fouled, made free throw. Blazers down 97-93.

Third quarter: Mavericks 97, Blazers 90

Portland is hanging in there. It won the third quarter 30-26 but still trail by seven.

Simons scored 11 in the third and Sharpe added six.

- Mavericks now lead 86-72. Dante Exum has 18 for the Mavericks.

- Dallas pushes lead back to 10, 82-72.

- Sharpe three makes it 73-69, Dallas.

- A Matisse Thybulle three just made the score 71-66, Dallas.

Second quarter: Mavericks 71, Blazers 60

The Mavericks’ offense has been too much for the Blazers to handle thus far.

Dallas led by as much as 19 but the Blazers pushed back to keep the score relatively close.

The Mavericks shot 59.1% in the first half and scored 38 points in the paint compared to 14 for Portland.

Luka Doncic has 21 points, five rebounds and three assists. Kyrie Irving scored 11.

The Blazers shot just 39.2% but have hit on 9 of 25 threes for the half after making just 3 of 11 in the first half.

Shaedon Sharpe leads the Blazers with 15 points and Anfernee Simons has 14 after scoring 13 in the second quarter.

- Blazers are hanging around but the Mavericks keep finding ways to push their lead back to double digits. It’s 68-58 with under a minute to go in the half.

- Mavericks up 54-46 with 3:51 remaining in the second quarter.

- Blazers on an 11-0 run. Simons scored 10 points in the past few minutes. Blazers trail 45-39.

- Simons hit his first three. Blazers down 45-33.

- Mavericks have extended their lead to 45-28. Anfernee Simons has one point. Sharpe leads the Blazers with 11.

First quarter: Mavericks 37, Blazers 22

Dallas owned the first quarter. The Mavericks shot 51.4% from the field and hit on 4 of 8 three-point shots. Luka Doncic led the Mavericks with 14 points.

Portland shot just 30% from the field. Shaedon Sharpe scored eight. The Blazers went 3 of 14 on threes.

- Shaedon Sharpe three makes it 28-13.

- Mavericks just went off with a 17-2 run to go up 28-10.

- Blazers shooting 3 of 15 from the field but trail just 11-8 with 6:23 remaining in the quarter.

- Mavericks out to an 8-5 lead. Toumani Camara has all five of the Blazers’ points.

The Portland Trail Blazers will be without Deandre Ayton, Malcolm Brogdon and Jerami Grant when they host the Dallas Mavericks Friday night at the Moda Center.

Grant had already been listed as out while in concussion protocol. But the status of Ayton (knee soreness) and Brogdon (knee soreness) remained uncertain until coach Chauncey Billups announced before the game that both would be out.

Billups will start Anfernee Simons, Shaedon Sharpe, Matisse Thybulle, Toumani Camara and Duop Reath.
