No. 2 Notre Dame edges Oregon State 1-0 in College Cup semifinals: Live updates recap

Oregon State’s dream men’s soccer came to an end Friday night, as Eno Nto’s goal in the 51st minute was the difference in No. 2 Notre Dame’s 1-0 win over the Beavers in the College Cup semifinals in Louisville, Kentucky.

The Beavers (11-6-5) made their deepest playoff run in program history, winning games against Seattle, Portland, SMU and North Carolina before coming a goal short against Notre Dame. Irish (13-2-6) play Clemson at 3 p.m. Monday for the NCAA championship.

SECOND HALF

89th minute: Newman with a couple crosses into the penalty box, but nothing materializes.

Less than three minutes to go.

84th minute: Baffour boots a 50-yarder that surprised OSU GK Castillo, but he manages to collect himself and save.

82nd minute: Free kick just outside the penalty by box by Notre Dame’s Daniel Russo is blocked and cleared by OSU.

80th minute: Oregon State with its eighth corner of the game, but it’s easily cleared by the Irish. Almost all of the action the past 20 minutes has been in Oregon State’s third.

77th minute: OSU with its seventh corner of the game. Went for the back post. Then a cross near the goal was headed over the goal by OSU’s Turner Humphrey.

67th minute: Oregon State with its best chance of the game. Three shots and two on goal during a 10-second sequence. The most dangerous was a shot by Farnos, which was deflected away from the goal by the Irish defense.

65th minute: Farrington subbed off the field for a brief rest.

61st minute: Nto with a yellow card, Notre Dame’s second of the game.

58th minute: Castillo briefly bobbles a long Notre Dame shot, but gets control.

51st minute: Bryce Boneau and Wyatt Lewis with some nice passing outside the box. Ball is fed to Eno Nto, who is 7 yards from the goal and drills a point blank shot past GK Luis Castillo. Notre Dame 1, Oregon State 0

50th minute: Nearly five minutes into the second half, OSU has had one minor threat.

46th minute: Foul on OSU’s Niklas Lund 29 seconds into the second half.

FIRST HALF

HALFTIME: Oregon State 0, Notre Dame 0

End of half. Oregon State outshoots Notre Dame 5-4. Beavers with 4 corners, ND with 2.

41st minute: Farrington appears to be tripped just outside the penalty box, but there’s no call though its a corner. Arnau Farnos gets a shot at the top of the box off the corner, but it’s well wide of the target.

38th minute: Less than 30 seconds after Farrington just misses creating a nice chance for OSU, he’s hit with a yellow card for a trip. Oregon State’s third of the first half.

36th minute: Farrington with a nice cross just in front of the goal, but it’s knocked away by the Notre Dame defense.

34th minute: Notre Dame’s Mitch Ferguson with a yellow card for a tackle of Logan Farrington. The OSU forward gets a free kick just outside the penalty area, and his shot is saved by Dowd.

33rd minute: Notre Dame’s Daniel Russo with a bullet that caroms off OSU’s keeper Luis Castillo, but the Beavers are able to clear.

31st minute: Oregon State’s Vicente Castro subs for Fran Cortijo.

28th minute: Oregon State corner kick, but it leads to nothing as OSU is offside.

27th minute: Oregon State’s Dante Williams with a yellow card, the Beavers second of the game.

25th minute: Oregon State has outshot Notre Dame 3-2, with two shots on goal. The Beavers have eight fouls, to Notre Dame’s two. Both teams have two corner kicks.

22nd minute: Oregon State has a genuine shot, as the ball is worked to Fran Cortijo about 8 yards from the goal. His shot is blocked, and results in a corner. That ball is briefly cleared, setting up a 20-yard rocket by Cortijo. It is saved by Dowd. In the 21st minute, OSU GK Luis Castillo gets a yellow card.

20th minute: Notre Dame free kick is cleared out of the box, then there’s a shot on goal by Paddy Burns. There’s not much on it, and Luis Castillo saves.

19th minute: Notre Dame has its first corner kick. It’s cleared out of the box, but Notre Dame works the ball around the penalty box and draws a foul, just outside the box to the right.

16th minute: Oregon State gets its first shot, by Dante Williams. It’s harmless and easily retrieved by ND keeper Bryan Dowd.

15th minute: Foul on Oregon State’s Dante Williams, the Beavers’ fifth of the game.

13th minute: Notre Dame’s KK Baffour gets the first shot of the game. It’s easily blocked by the OSU defense. Beavers then avoid disaster with a turnover near their penalty box, but they’re able to wrest the ball from Notre Dame.

8th minute: Notre Dame crossing a ball into the box, and it’s cleared out by Oregon State, which briefly counterattacks.

7th minute: No shots, or shots on goal by either team yet. OSU’s Jacob Zapien called for a foul, and he’s limping off the field. Tomas Bedouret subs.

4th minute: Foul on Notre Dame’s Bryce Boneau in Oregon State’s half.

1st minute: Oregon State gets a corner kick, but the ball is cleared out of the box.

FINAL: Clemson 1, West Virginia 0. Clemson plays Oregon State-Notre Dame winner at 3 p.m. Monday for the NCAA championship.

Halftime score of the first semifinal: Clemson 1, West Virginia 0. Beaver fans have a bit of an interest in Clemson, as two years ago, the Tigers knocked off No. 1 OSU in the quarterfinals in penalty kicks, eventually winning the national title.

Clemson and West Virginia play in the first semifinal at 3 p.m. (ESPNU).
