Clackamas County officials said the victim in a fatal shooting Monday near Estacada was a 19-year-old woman from Mulino.

Emily Rose Taylor was killed around 10 p.m. when someone shot her as she and Jacob Allen Cutts were driving south on Highway 211 just outside of Estacada. The suspects were driving a silver Toyota Corolla or Camry with Oregon plates in the same direction, the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office said.

Cutts, a 30-year-old from Estacada, was shot in the hand. He was treated at the scene and then taken to a local hospital.

Taylor lived with her mother and stepfather. Thursday was to be her first day at a new job at a senior-care facility, said Antony Valoppi, a longtime friend of the family speaking on their behalf. The job was going to be a stepping stone toward her goal of going to nursing school, Valoppi said.

“She was a ball of fire and light, and she always put people before her,” Valoppi said. “You could never knock the smile off her face.”

No arrests have been made in the case, and authorities have not said if they believe Taylor or Cutts were targeted. The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the sheriff’s tipline, by phone at 503-723-4949 or online at www.clackamas.us/sheriff/tip.
