Oregon volleyball signs pair of middle blockers to 2024 recruiting class

Oregon volleyball signed a pair of middle blockers to its 2024 recruiting class.

Anaya Thrower, a top 50 player nationally, and Mia Tvrdy, an AVCA girls high school first team All-American, signed with the Ducks on Wednesday.

Thrower, the No. 2 player in California, had 157 blocks, 258 kills and hit .439 in her senior season at Vanden High School. The 6-foot-4 middle had 560 kills, a .433 hitting percentage and 302 blocks over her final three years of high school.

“Anaya plays way above the net,” Oregon coach Matt Ulmer said in a statement. “She has elite length and jump, and can attack at angles that you don’t see very often. Opposing attackers are always aware of where she is because of her blocking presence. Anaya is a very caring teammate and will be a positive influence in our locker room.”

Tvrdy had 1,169 kills, 299 blocks and 75 service aces over her career at Papillion-La Vista (Neb.) High School, where she earned All-America honors this season.

“Mia is one of the most versatile middles you will find,” Ulmer said. “She is lightning quick laterally and off the ground. Her arm has a lot of power and she hits the ball before blockers react. She has the ability to run the slide at an elite level and will fit in really well with the tempo we want to run. Mia has great energy on and off the court and I can’t wait to see her flying around MKA.”
