Mountain West in ‘active discussions’ with Oregon State, Washington State regarding scheduling in sports other than football

The Mountain West, having reached a football scheduling agreement with Oregon State and Washington State for the 2024 season, is in “active discussions” with the two schools for similar arrangements in other sports the Pacific Northwest schools compete in.

Mountain West commissioner Gloria Nevarez said the conference is “still talking through everything” with OSU and WSU for scheduling in other sports, including men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, softball, men’s and women’s soccer and women’s volleyball. Washington State athletic director Pat Chun said the school is working on scheduling in its other sports for 2024-25.

Oregon State and Washington State still intend to compete as the lone members of the Pac-12 in football, but could be affiliate members of the Mountain West in a number of other sports in order to compete in a conference championship and be eligible for the league’s automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament in each sport. It would not be an unusual arrangement, as Hawaii is an affiliate member of the Mountain West in football, for example.
