Heavy rain from several back-to-back atmospheric rivers has flooded sections of U.S. 101 along the Oregon coast early Tuesday.

The Oregon Department of Transportation has closed the coast highway to all vehicles from mileposts 22-25 from just south of Seaside to the junction with U.S. 26 due to high water across the roadway.

High tides have also contributed to flooding along the coast. Oregon 6 at its junction with U.S. 101 in Tillamook is closed due to high water. A local detour is available in that area.

High water has also been reported along 101 north of Cloverdale. The road is not closed there, but traffic is slowing.

Update: 1 p.m. Tuesday - U.S. 101 northbound is closed near Neskowin at milepost 98 due to flooding. ODOT is working on getting a flagger in place. Use an alternate route or delay your trip if possible.

In a recent release, ODOT warned portions of the highway could be closed for an extended time as the water levels will need to come down to open the road. Rain is expected throughout Tuesday and into Wednesday. Stormy conditions and water on the roadway will be continued hazards. Drivers should consider alternate routes or delay their trips.
