A driver of an SUV struck a 72-year-old man in Southeast Portland last Friday, throwing the man 70 feet, police said. The driver then sped from the scene “at a high rate of speed.”

The victim, who officials have not named, is in critical condition at a local hospital, according to the Gresham Police Department.

The collision occurred at Southeast Stark Street and 192nd Avenue shortly after 6 p.m. on the day after Thanksgiving. The car raced away on 192nd, heading north, police said.

Police are still looking for the driver and the car. They said the vehicle is “a white, silver or gold SUV that should have front end damage as a result of the crash.” They ask anyone with surveillance cameras in the area or who otherwise might have information about the collision to call the Gresham Police tip line at 503-618-2719.
