A motorcyclist was killed in a Thanksgiving morning crash on the lower deck of the Marquam Bridge, which carries Interstate 5 over the Willamette River near downtown Portland.
Portland Police said the motorcycle was the only vehicle involved in the crash, which occurred shortly before 10 a.m. Passing drivers stopped to give first aid, and the motorcyclist was taken by ambulance to a hospital but died of his injuries.
Traffic was diverted to other downtown-area freeways during a police investigation that closed the freeway for four hours.
The police bureau asked witnesses to e-mail the Traffic Investigations Unit crimetips@police.portlandoregon.gov and reference case No. 23-304119.
Another motorcyclist died hours earlier in a collision with a minivan in Gresham just before 7 p.m. Wednesday. Gresham Police said the crash occurred on Southeast Division Street east of 176th Avenue.
