Palestinian flag mural removal from Beaverton High classroom

A mural depicting the Palestinian flag was removed from a classroom at Beaverton High after complaints from students. The same flag is seen here during a demonstration in downtown Portland in support of the Palestinian people in mid-October.

A Palestinian flag mural that a student and teacher painted on the walls of a Beaverton High classroom was removed late last week after several students complained it made them feel unsafe and unwelcome.

In an email to families Friday, Principal Andrew Kearl said the mural would be painted over but the school would add a Palestinian flag to a display of many nations’ flags in the school’s cafeteria, meant to represent the countries of origin of the school’s nearly 1,500 students.
